The dinosaurs of Jurassic Park will walk the earth once again, as today Universal Pictures announced a new entry in their billion dollar franchise was on the way.

It’s not surprising, given that the latest entry, Jurassic World: Dominion, still managed to bring in a billion dollars despite heavy criticism and poor reviews. The Jurassic franchise has proven to be one of Universal’s most resilient franchises throughout its six entries.

Steven Spielberg is returning to executive produce, bringing in his Amblin Entertainment to help with production. What’s exciting is David Koepp, the co-writer of the 1993 classic film and writer of its follow up, The Lost World, will be penning the script.

Plot details are still unknown, Universal have only stated it’s the beginning of a new storyline. As such, it’s expected that previous franchise stars like Sam Neill, Laura Dern, or the Jurassic World stars Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard will not return. Although that has yet to be confirmed by the studio.

So far no director has been attached. This is early in development, so more info should become available in the coming months. This isn’t the only surprise for Jurassic fans. Last year, a new game was announced following immediately after the 1993 original, Jurassic Park Survival. The original film, hailed by many as one of the greatest adventure films of all time, celebrated its 30th anniversary last year.
