In Year End Interview, Director Matt Reeves Asserts The Batman Part II Script Nearly Finished

By Chad W. Shreeves

In Variety’s annual roundtable discussions Directors on Directors, Matt Reeves and Zoe Kravitz reunited to discuss a variety of topics. But to many fans of the DC Universe, questions still abound about the future of Reeves’ successor to the 2022 comic book adaptation hit The Batman, The Batman: Part II

Kravitz, who also starred in The Batman as Selina Kyle/Catwoman, brought up the question of the sequel’s status after reports that the film had been delayed. Reeves confirmed that the Batman Part II script is nearly finished and will begin filming next year. While he didn’t say much beyond that, it’s a welcome sight for those who are ready to see star Robert Pattinson back in the suit once again.

Beyond that, and usual quips and insights into both Reeves’ and Kravitz’s directing processes, he also confirmed that discussions about a second season of this fall’s breakout hit The Penguin (An Everything Entertainment Award Nominee)are ongoing.

Yeah, we’re talking to [showrunner] Lauren [LeFranc] about doing another season. That was a special experience. I just feel really fortunate. These characters don’t belong to me; they belong to the world. It comes down to whether you can approach them in a way that expresses something personal.” -The Batman director, The Penguin Executive Producer Matt Reeves

It’s still a while to go before the DC Elseworlds film hits theaters. But it does appear that production is moving on.
