The Best of 2024 Rated By the Editor
Here we are, at the end of 2024 when all of the best of the year are recognized. At Everything Entertainment, I’ve taken the time to rank some of my favorite things from the year in movies, TV, and gaming.
Here are the nominees:
Best Picture
- Dune: Part 2
- The Fall Guy
- Furiosa
- Inside Out 2
- Wicked
And the winner is…

Dune Part Two
Denis Villeneuve concluded his epic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s sci-fi masterpiece in the best way possible. Not only does it take everything that made the first film great and amps it up to eleven, it further builds out the Dune universe and sets up further stories. Coupled with some of the year’s best visuals and stellar performances from Timothee Chalamet, Javier Bardem, Rebecca Ferguson, and Austin Butler (among others), and Dune Part Two is an unforgettable story that will stick in the mind for generations.
Game of the Year
- Astro Bot
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- Metaphor Refantazio
- Persona 3: Reload
- Stellar Blade
And the winner is…

Persona 3: Reload
2024 will go down as a fantastic year for RPGs, and the competition was intense. But out of all of them, one game stood out. While it’s easy to dismiss Reload as “just a remake”, Atlus and the Persona team rebuilt this PS2 classic from the ground up. With a revamped soundtrack that ranks among the greatest soundtracks in years, reworked voiceovers, and a flood of quality of life improvements, Reload is a fantastic journey. That’s before the complex, strategic combat that tests players’ skills. All of that with one of the most complex, deep narratives ever experienced with an ensemble one just can’t help but fall in love with, it’s easily one of the best games in a long time.
Streaming Service of the Year
- Prime Video
- Apple TV+
- Max
- Crunchyroll
- Peacock
And the winner is…

Amazon Prime Video
While Hulu and Max shone with megahits like Shogun and The Penguin, Amazon Prime Video consistently featured quality content. From beginning the year strong with Hazbin Hotel to redeeming the failing Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power and the penultimate season of their raucous superhero show The Boys Prime video managed to have it all.
TV Show of the Year
- The Boys (Season 4)
- Hazbin Hotel
- The Penguin
- Shogun
- What We Do In The Shadows (Season 6)
And the winner is…

Shogun
This year was an absolute standout for television. With many shows earning near perfect status, this became one of the most difficult categories to choose. But Hulu’s historical samurai epic Shogun still managed to stand above them all. With some all-time great set design, stellar writing, and powerhouse performances by Hiroyuki Sanada, Cosmo Jarvis, and Anna Sawai, Shogun is the type of series that only comes along every few years.
Best Director
- John M. Chu, Wicked
- Shawn Levy – Deadpool and Wolverine
- George Miller, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
- Denis Villenuve, Dune Part Two
- Robert Eggers, Nosferatu
And the winner is…

Denis Villeneuve, Dune Part Two
With Dune: Part Two being the clear frontrunner for best picture, Denis Villeneuve managed to bring in some perfect performances with some stellar camerawork and set design. All of this under Villeneuve’s steady hand that only someone who has mastered the craft of filmmaking can deliver. It’s a great achievement, leaving me even more excited for what Villeneuve will accomplish next.
Best Actor in a Movie or TV Show
- Timothee Chalamet – Dune Part Two
- Colin Farrell – The Penguin
- Hugh Jackman – Deadpool and Wolverine
- Kayvan Novak – What We Do In The Shadows
- Hiroyuki Sanada – Shogun
And the winner is…

Hiroyuki Sanada – Shogun
Strong, powerful, silent. Hiroyuki Sanada was able to convey so many emotions in the 10 episode run, it’s hard to deny he had no equal. It’s a performance for the ages, as his turn as Toranaga proved the veteran actor’s skill. Even in moments of pure silence, Sanada’s facial expressions tell the viewer everything they need to know, and that alone set him as the single greatest actor this year.
Best Actress in a Movie or TV Show
- Cynthia Erivo – Wicked
- Ariana Grande – Wicked
- Cristin Millioti – The Penguin
- Anna Sawai – Shogun
- Zendaya – Challengers
And the winner is…

Cristin Millioti – The Penguin
While the actress category was incredibly stacked, and every actress on this list deserved to stand upon the winner’s podium, one stood above all. Millioti’s turn as Sofia Falcone/Gigante really showed just the true extent of the actress’ talent. From her tortured past to her villainous rise, Millioti proved in every scene in every way just how talented she is.
Best Supporting Actor
- Jonathan Bailey – Wicked
- Rhenzy Feliz – The Penguin
- Walton Goggins – Fallout
- Chris Hemsworth – Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga
- Anthony Starr – The Boys
- Charlie Vickers – Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power
And the winner is…

Walton Goggins – Fallout
Goggins has always performed at a high level, but his turn in Amazon’s Fallout has proven just how talented he is. With both the power to play both a tortured past, the vulnerability to show real emotion, and his strength to pull off some badass action sequences, it’s a well rounded performance that helped to further the improved quality of video game adaptations.
Best Supporting Actress:
- Olivia Cooke – House of the Dragon
- Rebecca Ferguson – Dune Part 2
- Renee Rapp – Mean Girls
- Hannah Waddingham – The Fall Guy
And the winner is…

Rebecca Ferguson – Dune: Part Two
Ferguson has proven herself a spectacular actress, and this performance in the Dune sequel she was able to show off her acting chops in a truly spectacular way. With some wonderful character work, the lady Jessica proved to be one of Dune: Part Two‘s best written and most interesting characters. Coupled with her character’s dark turn which she deftly handled, it created a new avenue for Ferguson which allowed her to rise above the rest.
Best Voice or Motion Capture Performance (Actor)
- Alex Brightman – Hazbin Hotel
- Kevin Durand – Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes
- Bryan Tyree Henry – Transformers One
- Pedro Pascal – The Wild Robot
- JK Simmons – Invincible
And the winner is…

Alex Brightman –Hazbin Hotel
Being able to balance multiple voice roles is no easy feat. And Brightman manages to balance his roles amazingly. As the main villain Adam, as well as secondary character Sir Pentious and other various voices, Brightman had standout after standout moment in the off-beat, crude show. Coupled with his talented singing it allowed him to stand above everyone.
Best Voice or Motion Capture Performance (Actress):
- Maya Hawke – Inside Out 2
- Erika Henningson – Hazbin Hotel
- Reshel Mae – Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings In Russian
- Lupita Nyong’o – The Wild Robot
- Briana White – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
And the winner is…

Briana White – Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
In the original Final Fantasy VII, Aerith was a character that was memorable, but nothing special. Very much the typical “kind healer” from multiple JRPGS. White’s performance elevated that character to an all time great. Coupled with Square’s writing and Rebirth’s pacing, it allowed White to stretch her acting muscles to really get the right performance, and it showed. From her somber acceptance of her fate to some wonderful one-liners, White managed to capture all of the quirks and traits. It’s a brilliant, unforgettable performance that will go down as one of the best performances of the console generation.
Best Narrative in a Game, Movie, or TV Show
- Fallout
- Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
- The Penguin
- Persona 3: Reload
- Shogun
- X-Men 97
And the winner is…

Shogun
Massive samurai battles, hard hitting character drama, tense Game of Thrones style political conflicts…Shogun was one of the best entertainment offerings of the year. The saga of Toranaga and his quest to unite Japan offered such a brilliant story that will stick with its viewers for decades.
Most Pleasant Surprise of the Year
- Alya Sometimes Hides Her Feelings In Russian – Crunchyroll
- Hazbin Hotel – Prime Video
- The Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Season 2 – Prime Video
- Persona 3 Reload – Atlus
- Transformers One – Paramount
And the winner is…

Transformers One
What makes Transformers One the single biggest surprise of the year? Paramount chose to release the first initial trailer for the film last spring. And it was bad, so bad it turned off a majority of moviegoers and unfortunately turned the film into a massive flop. But what the film did end up becoming was the single best Transformers film ever made. The origin story of Orion Pax and D-16, and seeing how Orion rose to the role of Optimus Prime while D-16 fell into the darkness to become Megatron became a delight. Coupled with some amazing voice performances and wonderful action scenes for an animated project, and it became a brilliant sequence. It’s just too bad the film did so poorly.
That’s it for this year’s Everything Entertainment Awards. News coverage will return in the new year with more reviews and content.
