Aquaman Actor returning to the DC Universe as fan-favorite character in upcoming superhero project.

Almost two years ago now, Aquaman star Jason Momoa teased he was remaining at DC. Although speculation that his time as the waterborne hero was coming to an end was rampant following the critical and commercial failure of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. While James Gunn and DC appeared to be moving on from former iterations of the characters. This saw the controversial move to recast Henry Cavill as Superman and others from the struggling franchise being removed from their contracts. Fans and Momoa himself rallied for the actor to take on the role of Lobo.

Momoa himself teased something via a cryptic Instagram post just before Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom’s release. Even then, speculation of him playing the antihero was rampant and his enthusiastic reaction seemed to confirm it.

Momoa Confirms his Role:

Today, Momoa confirmed via an Instagram post he was joining the DC Studios film Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

Momoa has made no secret of his love of fan favorite character Lobo. The antihero known for his cosmic travels and sense of humor, often being compared to DC’s version of Deadpool. And now, in a report in Variety, fans now know it won’t be that long before Momoa suits up.

We now know Momoa will be appearing in 2026’s Supergirl film. This will be the next major DC Studios film following next year’s hotly anticipated Superman film. The film will follow a young Kara Zor-El who will undergo a very different origin from her cousin Superman. Lobo’s role in the film is not yet known, as is much of Woman of Tomorrow’s plot.

In the original comics run, Woman of Tomorrow, Kara Zor-El/Supergirl is traveling the universe. Where she ends up taking on a vengeance seeking protégé in an intergalactic epic that spans multiple worlds and has a massive showdown with space pirates at its end. How much of that will make its way into the film version remains to be seen. Although characters from that run, Krem of the Yellow Hills and Ruthye Knolle have already been cast. (by Matthias Schoenaerts and Eve Ridley, respectfully). Milly Alcock (House of the Dragon) is headlining the film as Supergirl.
