It was not that long ago that a new ‘Jurassic’ movie was announced. This new film by Universal would be the fourth in the ‘Jurassic World’ series and the seventh overall film in the franchise. David Koepp, writer of the 1993 classic, is returning to pen the script.

UPDATE 2/9/2024: The Hollywood Reporter has announced that David Leitch is no longer involved with the project and Universal is searching for a new director.

Now we know who may be directing it. In a report by The Hollywood Reporter, ‘John Wick’ co-director David Leitch is currently speaking to Universal about taking the helm.

Leitch is also known for filming ‘Deadpool 2’ and ‘Bullet Train’, he is also directing this summer’s ‘The Fall Guy’. That releases on May 3 and if he takes it, he will most likely begin production on ‘Jurassic World 4’ shortly after that.

There is still no cast attached to the film, the majority of speculation has been that none of the ‘Jurassic Park’ or the ‘Jurassic World’ mainstay cast members will be returning and this will feature an entirely new cast of characters.

Plot details are also under wraps, although the belief is that the film will indeed take place after last year’s ‘Jurassic World: Dominion’. That ended the franchise with humans and dinosaurs having a fragile coexistence in the world, although that could be shattered under Leitch’s vision.

Universal Pictures will be distributing the film, and it has a July 2, 2025 release date exclusively in theaters.
