Former Marvel star returning to the MCU as fan favorite character

Marvel has had a giant year, with Deadpool and Wolverine becoming the biggest R rated film of all time. And 2025 is looking to be even bigger, with Captain America: Brave New World, Thunderbolts, and several Disney+ series ready to make a splash. Even with all that, attention has turned to 2026’s huge event film, Avengers: Doomsday. And now we know that Captain America Star Hayley Atwell will be returning to the MCU.

And now, Deadline has reported that the cast is beginning to fill out. Hayley Atwell, star of the ABC Drama Agent Carter and who has made several appearances in the MCU as Agent Peggy Carter, has signed on to return. The film currently boasts a roster of Robert Downey JR (Victor von Doom), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), Benedict Cumberbatch (Doctor Strange) and Mark Ruffalo (Bruce Banner/Hulk).
Atwell has been no stranger to the Marvel Universe. Having first appeared in 2011’s Captain America: The First Avenger, she has returned multiple times. Including both Captain America sequels, she’s appeared in Marvel’s epic Avengers: Endgame. She most famously appeared in two seasons of the ABC drama Agent Carter.
While plot details are scarce, we know that Robert Downey Jr will be returning to the MCU as the sinister villain Dr Doom. Chris Evans was announced earlier this week, presumably returning to his Steve Rogers role. Filming is expected to begin over the summer, so more cast should be announced for the film as they get closer.

Avengers: Doomsday hits theaters May 1, 2026.
