It appears Disney has found the next major film in their juggernaut live action adaptation slate. While there has been some declining interest, Disney is not showing any signs of slowing down. Tangled appears to be next on the docket.

According to a new report in Deadline, The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey is now in discussions to direct the live action adaptation of Tangled. The animated film that stars Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi has become a massive success for the studio. It’s regarded as one of the best animated films of the 2010s and has a plethora of fans. The film also has two Oscar nominations for Best Animated Picture and Best Original Song.

While no casting has been announced, Deadline also reports that Jennifer Kaytin Robinson has been working on the script. She is most known for Do Revenge. As well as Marvel’s Thor: Love and Thunder. Plot details are scarce, but there’s no reason to believe it won’t follow a similar plot to the 2010 film.
Gracey has already received rave reviews for his debut film, The Greatest Showman. The musical stars Hugh Jackman in a fantastical look at P.T. Barnum’s life that became a smash sensation. His next project is this holiday season’s Better Man, a musical biopic about singer Robbie Williams, where Williams is seen as a chimpanzee.
Discussions are still early, but it currently appears Gracey is Disney’s first choice for the adaptation. More details about the Tangled live action project should be revealed about the project next year. Next up in Disney’s live action slate is Snow White, due to come out in March.
