Universal Pictures’ attempt to revitalize the classic monster story will have to wait just a little longer.
Earlier today it was reported via The Hollywood Reporter that director Leigh Wannell’s take on the Wolf Man story has been pulled from its October 25, 2024 release date and moved into January 17, 2025. No reason was given as to the delay by Universal or the production company, Blumhouse.

Wannell, who is returning to the Monsters universe after a very successful run in 2020’s The Invisible Man propelled him from indie horror darling to mainstream success. Universal has been struggling with their classic monsters ever since their Dark Universe planned cinematic universe failed, with only The Invisible Man proving to be a successful run.
The Wolf Man will star Christopher Abbott (Poor Things) and Julia Garner (Ozark), and has simply been described as a “man whose family is stalked by a dangerous predator” storyline, with no further details. Abbott is taking over from Ryan Gosling, who previously was attached to the film.

This is the second modern attempt at bringing The Wolf Man to the screen, since the 2010 film starring Benicio Del Toro proved to be an epic disaster for the studio. By sticking with one of the strongest horror houses in the business with Wannell’s track record of success, Universal is hoping they have another big hit on their hands.
More details from The Wolf Man will be made available closer to release. The film is expected to debut exclusively in movie theaters.
