Earlier this afternoon Warner Discovery and HBO gave fans a new look at one of the most anticipated returns of the year. The epic Game of Thrones spinoff House of the Dragon is finally coming back this year.

But there’s a twist, because HBO didn’t just drop a single trailer, they dropped two new ones. With season 1 ending on the brink of a Targaryen civil war and new threats on the horizon, it was a marketing plan to bring one trailer for each side of the war. As the Dance of Dragons begins, HBO is urging fans of the series to pick a side.

In the Black Trailer, Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy) stakes her claim to the throne and claims that Aegon is illegally sitting on it. Seeing as she wants revenge for the murder of her son during season 1’s final moments, the path to war becomes certain. There’s also clips such as Daemon (Matt Smith)demanding fealty from the other houses and threatens those who disobey. There’s also some heavy action scenes showing the violence in this season will be much grander than last year’s.

In the Green Trailer, Queen Alicent (Olivia Cooke) takes center stage after having put her son Aegon on the throne in the previous season. As Alicent and her council scheme, the children plot behind the scenes to cause murder and mayhem. It’s a powerful trailer that shows the lengths the Greens will go to hold on to power. It also has some of the high budget action sequences shown in the Black trailer, previewing that the coming war is going to be one of this year’s most explosive moments on streaming.

To cap off both of these trailers, HBO also announced that House of the Dragon officially returns on June 16. With only 12 weeks to go until the new season begins, HBO will be ramping up the marketing quickly.
