It’s been a while since a live action Star Wars series hit Disney+. Since last summer’s Ahsoka, Disney has been quiet on the Star Wars front save for a few announcements of upcoming projects.

One series that had been in development for a while is the High Republic based spinoff The Acolyte. This series, which reportedly takes a significant amount of time from the point of view of the Sith, has been in development since 2020 and had been filming most of last year (outside of the writers and actors strikes, of course).
Now, in a report by Variety, fans now know when they can watch the series. The series debuts on Disney+ on June 4. Putting the show squarely in the summer season, The Acolyte will be one of the major shows to watch all summer.
Disney+ also revealed a darker than expected first poster, showing a much more violent look and promising something that could be a bit more mature than others were thinking. Think more Andor and less Mandalorian.

The series is headlined by Dear Evan Hansen and Bodies Bodies Bodies actress Amandla Stenberg and Squid Game breakout Lee Jung-Jae. It was created by Leslye Hedland, known for her work on Netflix’s Russian Doll. More news is expected, and potentially a trailer, within the next few days.
