The reports that Sony would be launching a PS5 pro have been heating up the past several months. Last generation’s PS4 Pro was a huge success, so it makes sense Sony would want to try and replicate that with the new console.

In a report by GameRant, it’s claimed Sony’s aimed to release the Pro model of their current generation console in order to take full advantage of next year’s blockbuster, Grand Theft Auto VI. This would make the Sony console the definitive place to play the biggest release of 2025.

This new information shown through a YouTuber known as Moore’s Law Is Dead claims the PS5 Pro is roughly 45% faster than the base model, features 2-3x ray tracing, and even an AI accelerator that will allow games to run crisper and cleaner. This would be a heavy increase in power.

The insider’s report also mentions dev kits are already out in the wild and many games are already in development with the hardware in mind. This could mean that highly anticipated first party titles, like Naughty Dog’s unknown original IP, could look even better thanks to the new technology.

There is currently no knowledge about when Sony plans to officially announce any such console if it exists. Perhaps this summer in time to get preorders out. Sony recently admitted they don’t have any big first party games until at least March of 2025 so there wouldn’t be a marquee title releasing for it.

If the Pro model is real, more information will be coming soon.
