In a couple year span where the superhero genre seemed to start to show signs of slowing down, Matt Reeves’ detective noir epic The Batman stands out as a positive sign.

Warner Bros. Pictures announced today that the long awaited sequel, The Batman: Part II will be moving from its October 3, 2025 release one full year to October 2, 2026. No reason was given for the delay, but given that Matt Reeves was recently commenting about still working on the script, it does not appear to be ready to begin filming.

Maggie Gyllenhall’s “The Bride”, which stars Christian Bale and Jessie Buckley, will be taking that 2025 release date.

Star Robert Pattinson is already signed on to star, although no other cast members have been officially added. Previous stars Zoe Kravitz and Jeffrey Wright have been rumored to be returning, however.

Matt Reeves’ film was officially announced last year, although the film will remain an Elseworlds film. This keeps it separate from the rebooted universe James Gunn is currently creating with Superman.

The Batman released in 2022 and proved to be a smash hit, earning $772 million and an 85% critic rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Audiences and critics praised its gritty tone and atmosphere, as well as its brutal fight choreography.

Reeves’ The Batman spinoff, The Penguin, is still slated to release on Max later this year.
