It’s been a long road to DC’s rebooted universe after a year full of box office disappointments. Yesterday, James Gunn took to Instagram/Threads to share that principal photography had begun on Superman’s next outing to the big screen.
Along with that was the first image of the Superman crest, and a tease of the suit that David Corenswet is going to be wearing in this new universe.

And with that, news came out that some new cast members had joined as well. Most importantly is Wendell Pierce joining as Perry White, the hard-hitting editor in chief of the Daily Planet and Clark’s sometimes ally/sometimes antagonist. Pierce is most well known for his work on The Wire, as well as stints on Jack Ryan, and numerous Broadway productions. He’ll be replacing Laurence Fishburne, who most recently was seen in the role.

Pierce will be joining an already pretty stacked cast with Corenswet including Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Skyler Gizondo (Jimmy Olson), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), and Nathan Fillion (Guy Gardner/Green Lantern).
The film was until yesterday also titled Superman: Legacy, and was revealed now to be shortened to simply being Superman.
Filming began ahead of schedule in Atlanta and the film releases in theaters July 11, 2025.
