James Gunn’s big swing to restart the DC brand and rebuild trust in audiences is nearly ready to get going. The upcoming Superman: Legacy has been in pre-production for quite a while now, but today marked a big milestone.

James Gunn took to Instagram earlier today to share that the first table read for the film has happened and the cast is now locked in and prepared for their April shooting dates.

With the first look at the major cast (including a newly bald Nicholas Hoult), the realization that the newest Superman adaptation is finally on its way is setting in.

It’s been a long road for this new version of DC. After a tumultuous few years and with conflicting visions due to ATT selling to Discovery, followed by poor reception from multiple films in a row, DC is in need of a fresh start. With a new cast led by David Corenswet and an all-star ensemble, it appears new DC Studio Head James Gunn is ready for the challenge.

Fans will still need to wait a good while before anything big is revealed for the project. More info is potentially coming at this summer’s San Diego Comic-Con. This will be the first film released under the DC Studios banner. Filming begins in April and the film is coming to theaters July 11, 2025.
