Anya Taylor-Joy Leads the Post Apocalyptic Epic

Warner Bros. Entertainment has unveiled the first trailer for next year’s summer blockbuster, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga.

This prequel to George Miller’s Best Picture Nominated Mad Max: Fury Road sees Anya Taylor-Joy take over the titular role previously played by Charlize Theron. The film follows Furiosa’s origins that lead her into the battle hardened survivor we saw in Fury road.

Trailer Review:

This trailer is straight up excellent. From Miller’s use of practical sets and practical effects to a stellar first look at both Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, this trailer delivers everything audiences want from a Fury Road spinoff.

While the “A Mad Max Saga” wording is reminiscent (and not in a good way) of the “A Star Wars Story” branding used by Lucasfilm, the title speaks true and within seconds of this trailer beginning we’re swept back to the dusty barren wasteland of George Miller’s franchise.

The action looks intense, both Taylor-Joy and Hemsworth steal every frame they’re in, and every frame of this trailer is just begging for more. Even callbacks to Fury Road like seeing a young Immortan Joe really bring back to that classic from just a few years ago. Within just a couple minutes, this is a trailer that will escalate Furiosa to a most anticipated title of 2024.

As with Fury Road, this trailer already features plenty of practical explosions and real sets that are a delight after the past couple years of CGI-filled romps have left much to be desired. It’s going to be very exciting to see how these work on the big screen, especially in those premium IMAX and Dolby Cinema Screens.

There are a few odd editing choices that threw me off watching the trailer, but I’m not certain that’s a knock on the movie, only on the way the trailer was cut. Either way, it’s going to be a long wait still.

Overall, it’s a blast. One of the rare trailers for a film I am already excited for, and am now absolutely ecstatic. Warner has my attention, let’s see if they can keep it up this high until May.
